Question : HI ,I am seeking help for my 27 yr old son. He works 3 - 4 hrs a day doing lawn work. The outside is brutal because of the heat . He comes home and knows he needs to shower and try to relax. He knows not to nap . So until dinner time he stays awake. He fixes his dinner and knows not to go to sleep. He avoids caffine and he says he trys to work out after his dinner. So when it is time for bed he goes to his bed but just lays there until 5am and never went to sleep. can you help just by knowing this small bit of information?

improve sleep

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care questions

You son is having difficulty sleeping and you are wondering what can be done to improve his sleep. The first thing I would tell you is to have him stop exercising before sleeping. By exercising he is revving up his adrenalin which hypes him up and interferes with sleep. Her are some other hints to help sleep.

1. use the bedroom only for sleep. Don't use bedroom for entertainment
2. stop caffeine
3. stay awake during the day
4. When it time to sleep read until he feels sleepy then turn off lights and go to bed
5. If unable to fall asleep in 30 minutes get out of bed and read again until feeling sleepy. Tossing and turning in bed makes the bedroom a torture chamber
6. try Benadryl to help induce sleep
7. No alcohol

Try these things to see if it help his sleeping
