Posted on Sat, 23 Jan 2016
Question: My kid XXXXXXX (7.5 years old) is having fever since yesterday 25th Dec 2015. He was under medication for middle ear infection far the last 1 week. He was given Augmention DDS (Amoxycillin and Pottassium Clavulanate Oral Suspension IP) for 5 days, a dosage of 5ml 3 times day, the course ends today. He is also under medication for recurrent cold/cough - He takes Levolin Inhaler 50 mg (2-2-2-2) and Budecort Inhaler 100mg (2-0-2). For cold he was given Monticope 5ml once daily. Now with these medications, he suddenly developed fever yesterday after taking head shower for 2 consecutive days. He has not been eating well. The temperature is constant between 100F - 102.5F. We gave carpool 250mg 5ml every 4 hours to reduce the fever but the temperature doesn't reduce much. In spite of the medicine every 2 hours once my kid develops fever.

Brief Answer:
Needs blood tests and reevaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Based on your history you have already completed a good course of antibiotics.
With fever coming back again there could be various reasons like complicated ear infection, chest infection, viral fevers, malaria, typhoid etc.
I would suggest you to get him reevaluated by your pediatrician.
He might order blood tests appropriately after clinical examination.
Until then you can continue calpol 250 at the same dose and frequency.
Try sponging with normal temperature water to bring down fever.
Ensure he drinks plenty of liquids to keep him hydrated.
Wishing your child good health and speedy recovery.
