Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Pain In The Calf

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jun 2016
Question: Hello
I have had a recurring intermittent pain in my calf for about two years - it is always in the exact same stop at the top of the calf, about an inch below and to the right of my knee (so the top outer calf). Do you have any idea what it might be? Also is there a certain specialty practice that I should be consulting?

Thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
you need to visit orthopaedic surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think it is most probably backer's cyst. This can cause pain in calf just at level of knee. Before I advised you any further I would like to know little more detail of the illness.
1.Do you have pain in knee joints specially squatting or sitting cross leg?
2.Do you have Diabetes or any other medical illness?
3.Can you see large blue veins at your leg?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

Thank you for your answer.

1. I have no knee pain at all
2. An endocrinologist told me that it was not possible for me to have diabetes, that I managed blood sugar very well (after a day of testing). However I had at least a few episodes of very high blood sugar (from self testing) and symptoms. I am lean and athletic but there is some diabetes in the family (diabetes type 2 even though we are mostly lean and athletic). Tested negative for antibodies.
3. I have no visible veins whatsoever on my legs.

Thanks again

Brief Answer:
It can be confirmed by MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
thanks for replying. After studying your answer I reached to this conclusion that your problem is mostly due to either a ligament injury or muscle pull at right side of knee. This is position of Biceps femoris muscle and lateral collateral ligament. I would recommend you following.
1.Get MRI of the knee and leg. MRI is best test for soft tissue problems and it will confirm the diagnosis.
2. Till then you can do hot water fomentation and volini gel local application.
3.Knee cap around knee can help.
4.Avoid squatting and sitting cross leg.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
