Question : I'm having intermittent pain under my left armpit. It started when I was getting ready for bed around 10:30 EST. I didn't think much of it, laid down and went right to sleep. Woke 3 hrs later to go to bathroom and it started again.

As per the details given by you it can be angina.An ongoing angina can be unstable in nature also and may further progress to myocardial infarction.

I would suggest you not to waste time and visit the nearest emergency room get a ekg and 2d echocardiogram done to rule out possibility of angina.
Intermittent pain in a 65 year old man can definitely be angina and the possibilities should be ruled out as early as possible.
