Suggest Treatment For Internal Hemorrhoids

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Oct 2014
Question: I had a colonoscopy done in December 2009 due to bright red bleeding in my stool. The colonoscopy showed I had internal hemorrhoids. There were no polyps. Since then, I've had rubber band litigation done but my hemorrhoids have now come back and they are grades 3 to 4 as of a week ago. I have bright red bleeding after every bowel movement. My colorectal surgeon met with me a week ago and suggested a hemorrhoidectomy and another colonoscopy. He confirmed I have internal hemorrhoids. Do I really need another colonoscopy done so soon since I just had it done 3 1/2 years ago and it's confirmed I have internal hemorrhoids? There is no history of colon cancer in my family. I'm a 34 year old healthy married male.

Hello,
You do not need a colonoscopy as a screening for Colo rectal cancer. You will definitely need surgery for grade 3 hemorrhoids.please discuss with your doctor as to why he has advised colonoscopy

Thank you. When should I get another colonoscopy done if I decide not to do the hemorrhoidectomy and continue to have bleeding during bowel movements? My doctor said I don't have to do the hemorrhoidectomy if I'm okay dealing with the hemorrhoids.

Do you have grade 4 hemorrhoids,
( piles come on of rectum while passing stools. If yes then surgery would be advisable. If not Grade4 then repeat banding can be done

He said I have 2 hemorrhoids that are between grades 3 and 4. He said banding can't be done because the banding failed when I did it previously. When should I get another colonoscopy done?

Brief Answer:
surgery- a better option

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would suggest colonoscopic banding which is possible.I believe banding can be repeated. But not advisable for grade 3 and 4 hemorrhoids.Surgery ,either conventional or minimally invasive would be a better option. A repeat colonoscopy can be done after 2 More years or earlier if you develop new symptoms
