Question: Hi I am 26 years old, I have irregular periods from the time of my puberty. Generally I get my periods once in two months and when i consulted a gyny she said I have poly cystic ovarian with the scan reports taken. This time I got my periods after 70 days but flow was not there for initial 10 days and after that I started getting heavy flow for the last 8 days. Please suggest as I feel am getting anemic and very weak now.

Brief Answer:
Get hemoglobin level checked, can take OC pills.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
With polycystic ovarian syndrome, it is normal to have irregular and delayed periods, and then a heavy period when the actual period starts.
Please get your hemoglobin levels checked, and if it is low, then please take iron supplements.
Please write to me with your latest hemoglobin report.
Also get following tests done to rule out PCOD - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, Lipid profile, DHEAS, Free testosterone.
You can take cyclical progesterone or oral contraceptive pills to regulate your periods.
Also, if PCOD is confirmed, after the blood tests, then you can take Metformin to help in control of PCOD.
WHat is your height and weight ?
Are you sexually active ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.
