Question: Hi! I might have Irritable bowel syndrome. I'm having chronic diarrhea. The episodes occur as much as five times daily. I drink a lot of water daily. I rarely have a normal bowel movement. I'm almost 56 years old, Caucasian, I'm HIV+, I have migraine disease for which I take daily prophylactic medications. Otherwise, I see my doctor regularly and I'm in good health. The diarrhea is not accompanied by any real pain, but I've taken to wearing Depends in the last week because it will occur now when I don't expect it.

Brief Answer:
IBS diarrhea predominant

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Irritable bowel syndrome is a chronic relapsing disorder which involves flare episodes and recurrences of variable severity. The symptoms can be managed but there is rarely a complete cure.

Based on the clinical outcomes that I have experienced , I would recommend
Tab Eucarbon along with Sucralfate 1 g BD .

Eucarbon contains the following
Vegetable charcoal
Folium Sennae
Rhurab root
Essential mint oils and fennel oils

With IBS each treatment option/ approach should be utilized for at least one month before anything new is tried.

Rifaximin along combination of alverine citrate + simethicone would be the second line option in case eucarbon with sucralfate fails to show significant improvement.

Mebeverine and/or hyoscine can be advised if spasmodic pain episodes occur frequently. Avoiding caffeinated beverages and alcohol would also be recommended.

You may discuss these options with your doctor.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
