Question : Last night I awoke barely able to breath. I have an itching throat and seem to be coughing a little. I do not seem to have any muscle problems but not sure. I was wheezing, trying very hard to catch my breath. This went on for a couple of minutes. Eventually it subsided and I was able to breath. It seemed that I had a great deal of mucus built up in my throat as well. I took some Aleve this morning but I do feel I may still have an issue.
Brief Answer:
Asthma is possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Do you smoke? Do you have an allergy? Have you had any chest pain or heart palpitations?
Your problem seems to be caused by asthma or (if you smoke) COPD. Due to asthma you get bronchi spasm which appears as inability to breath and gives kind of itching in the chest. Cough and mucus are also quite characteristic.
Asthma is more possible if you do suffer from allergy.
I suggest you to consult pulmonologist. Blow test (spirometry) should be done.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
