Suggest Treatment For Itching Rashes Spreading On Face After A Skin Injury

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014
Question: I suffer a itching rash type issue that started from a skin injury between my eyebrows and has spread to my nose, eyebrows, upper lip, chin, and I think my eye lids. Without any treatment my nose turns black or dark colored and sheds flakes of skin like dandruff. This began while working around dusty crates of parts in Kuwait in 2012 and is still a concern for me today despite the prescription of Clotrimazole and Betamethasone prescribed to me by my doctor in AZ. These drugs seem to manage the discomfort at times and prevent the discoloration of my nose completely but as of late the itching at my nose has become severe. I am currently working on contract in Pakistan and will not be home in the USA until Feb 2014 at the earliest. If possible could you please recommend what kind of doctor I should see for this issue while am outside of the US. I am very nervous about receiving health care in this country and would greatly appreciate some advice in this area.
Thank you. XXXXXXX Brown.

Brief Answer:
a dermatologist (skin specialist) would be best

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on the description, the rash may be seborrheic dermatitis. This is an inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the head and trunk where the sebaceous glands are particularly prevalent.
This glands are responsible for secretions which aid in this condition.

Certain type of yeast as well as genetic , environmental and general health factors contribute to this illness

Treatment: (1) as mentioned a dermatologist would be the specialty for you

(2)frequent washing with soaps removes the secretions/oils from the infected area. This is very important

(3)outdoor recreation and sun exposure also helps being careful to avoid any sun damage

(4)antifungal creams and topical steroid as you have been using. If these are not effective enough for you then alternatives can be used.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
