Brief Answer:
The most common cause would be fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello

There can be a few common causes for the ear itching, i will elaborate on them.

The commonest cause would be a fungal infection of the ear, this is common in swimmers and diabetic patients or in people who are exposed to damp weather for a long period of time. The treatment is with antifungal ear drops like clotrimazole or fluconazole ear drops for 2 to 3 weeks.

The second common cause may be dandruff. The outer part of the er has oil secreting glands , which may get blocked by dry scaling as seen in dandruff and lead to itching. The best thing would be to meet a dermatologist, he will prescribe a antidandruff shampoo/lotion, once the dandruff is controlled, the itching will stop.

Third common reason may be chemicals like oils, mehendi etc which you may be applying on your head. These chemicals can enter the ear and irritate the ear and cause itching. The best thing in such a situation would be to change your oil/mehendi and see of the symptoms resolve.

Hope you find my answer helpful

Take care
