Suggest Treatment For Itchy And Swollen Penis Skin

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: I have a swollen penis ring flesh. I believe it is a reaction to accidental contact with fluorouracil cream which I was applying to my face to treat pre-cancerous skin. It doesn't hurt but it itches and it is swollen. Should I wait a few days to see if it goes away or should I treat it as an emergency. I have no problem urinating.

Brief Answer:
Could be bacterial infection over glans.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

From the symptoms,it seems to be having that your foreskin is infected with bacterial or fungal infection.

This is not serious with right treatment and it will get cured in few days without any complications. So,there is no need to worry.

Apply Neosporin Ointment to the affected area, both outer and inner surface of the foreskin twice daily. This for a week or so will cure the infection completely.

Also, take anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen) or chymoral forte (trypsin/chymotrypsin) which will help to reduce the swollen area quickly.

All these medications are available over the counter and with medication the lesion will start improving in 3 to 4 days.

If there is no response or symptoms persists then you should consult a Dermatologist.

Wish you good health.

I am circumcised. Does that fact affect your diagnosis? What about the fact that it's possible that I may have inadvertently applied a small amount of fluorouracil cream to the area?

FYI I applied Locoid 1% hydrocortisone cream to help with the itching and swelling.

Brief Answer:
Continue using hydrocortisone cream.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up.

If you are already circumscribed then it is good and then there would be less chances of having bacterial infection.

This kind of swelling or itching over glans is known as balanitis or balanoposthitis which could be due to allergic or viral infection commonly.

Flurouracil inadvertent application topically will hardly cause itching or swelling, so this does not seem to be due to drug induced.

You can continue using hydrocortisone 1% cream or mometasome furoate 0.1% would be more effective to reduce swelling and itching.

Also, take over the counter medications as I said earlier for immediate benefit.

And mainly cleaning and washing genital especially glans part daily during bathing as explained in previous answer.

I expect it will start improving within 3 to 4 days with above treatment.

Hope this will help you.
