Question : Hi there,
I have been treated for hemorrhoids (banded x3) about 5 months ago. And a fissure for a good 5 months with Nitroglycerin and now the Dr. says it is healed. The area around my anus still gets extremely itchy about every 3-4 days. I have been using over the counter Hydro-cortisone .5% when it is out of control itchy and it seems to fix the problem for a few days but then it flares up again...Any idea what I should do or what is happening.

Brief Answer:
Sitz bath, cetirizine and clotrimazole powder would solve your problem.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
The problem with hydrocortisone, a steroid, is that although it makes the problem go away faster, it also makes it return faster. So I will strongly advise against its use. Although your fissure is presently healed, I will insist you to take Sitz bath. It will take care of the hemorrhoids as well as the itchiness.
If the itchiness still persists, take cetirizine tablet once daily for a few days off and on as required. You may also apply clotrimazole powder topially and keep the area clean and dry.
