Question : I have a rash and a few bumps in the back of my neck and the rest of my head has been itchy. If it is not lice do you have any idea what else it could be?

You are having pediculosis capitis

If you have found lice eggs in your hair then definitely all your symptoms are due to pediculosis capitis.

Otherwise rash and itching in the scalp can also be due to application of hair XXXXXXX or anyother chemical in the head or even due to a reaction to any drug taken by the patient.

If I were your treating doctor I would recommend you to apply Permethrin 1 percent lotion on the scalp, keep it for 15-20 minutes and wash it off. It has to be repeated again after 10 days.

For itching I would recommend you to take antihistaminics like tablet Levocetrizine 5 mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of the itching.

On the rash over the neck you can use high potency steroid like Clobetasol propionate cream twice daily on the affected area till the rash subsides which will usually do so in 7- 10 days.
