Suggest Treatment For Itchy Skin And Environmental Allergy

Question: Hello,

My family doctor finally reached the conclusion of the reason of my ill health for 9 months was because I have been struggling with Chronic Urticaria and allergic reaction (short of breath, stomachache, nausea) from environemtnal allergy (unspecified allergen) and anthropod bites allergy (possiblly from bed bugs in my allergist opinion) with my elevated IgE level, vitamine D deficiency (I was on Vitamin D therapy for two months and it was improved) and also by skin eosinophils (Dermatologist perform biopsy). Now my Fafmily doctor diagnosed me Dysphagia due to my weight loss (lost 15lb in May and XXXXXXX cannot gain my weight back no matter how much I ate, I don't have self realization of swallowing problem). Last month, my ENT doctor found that my esophagus was inflamed red with micro camera in my throat, and told me I have GERD and gave me daily Protonix 40mg prescription. I have been on daily Famotidine 20mg and Zyrtec (as needed) for a couple of months after my ear and arm Cellulitis (I was on atibiotics for two weeks after Rocephin shot for the Cellulitis). I was not taking Zyrtec daily due to no sinus symptoms and my sinus was clear, it was confirmed by ENT doctor. I still have muscle exthaution along with back pain often, I am having a hard time to get up and going every moring. I also occasional fatigue and itchy skin with smaller urticaria often, but ongoing headache has been milder (it used to be a massivd headache) but I still have it at least once a week. I am afraid that my allergic body is causing this all problem and I feel that I don't have a definate "cure" planning. My family doctor is treating my urticaria and back pain with acupuncture, I am scheduled to do so every month.

I need second opinion of how shoud I treat my body from here. I am 51 years old, definately need more maintenance, but so far no other clinical evidence to see any abnormality in my blood testing except unwanted ongoing health condition i mentioned above. I need help from HealthCare Magic doctor to suggest me what can I expect from here.

Brief Answer:
It could be post menopausal symptoms...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query and an elaborate history. I have gone through your history thoroughly and understood your problems. I will try my best to help you out with this.

1. After going through the history, I do feel you are having post menopausal symptoms along with allergy. The medicines you take for allergy causes more dryness of the skin and the mucous membranes, thus worsening your problems. Hence, you will require a good gynecologist's consultation for treatment of your post menopausal symptoms.

2. Secondly, there is no cure for allergy. The best treatment for allergy is prevention. Prevent those things which induces allergy, and you will be completely fine.

3. Thirdly, you take either Protonix 40 or Famotidine 20mg. Both of them are not required, as it will completely reduce the acid secretion in the stomach and lead to growth of unwanted bacteria.

4. My suggestions to you are:
a. Drink plenty of warm water, this will keep you hydrated and reduce the problems of the skin and the mucus membrane.
b. Keep your surroundings clean
c. Avoid sleeping directly under the fan or air conditioner; this will prevent the allergens from directly entering into your respiratory tract.
d. Avoid chilled food and beverages/coffee/alcohol/smoking (if any).

Hope this piece of information has been helpful to you. Revert back to me if you have any further queries.

Regards

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX My menopausal hormon blood test suggested that I am begenning of menopause, so you think my symptoms would reduce as my menopause passes the course? Can I expect some relief after menopausal stress on my body, perhaps my urticaria would be better? I appreciate you mentioened to me Protonix and Famotidine would cause unwantd bacteria growth. I was windering why y stomack pain is actually more often than before after Istarted taking them. I will ask referral to gynocologist. Should I still keep acupuncture?
