Question : My husband is taking cephalexin 500mg for infection but since starting it he has become itchy and tired all the time could this medication be causing it

Hello,

both of your husband's symptoms can be attributed to the drug. Systemic infections may cause tiredness. Fever is usually present in such cases.
Itchiness is usually the result of an allergic reaction which is not uncommon for cephalexin.

You should contact the treating doctor for reconsideration of your husband's treatment. There are various alternatives like azithromycin for example, which is usually chosen when the patient is allergic to penicillins and/or cephalosporins.
