Suggest Treatment For Itchy Vulva And Smegma

Posted on Sat, 24 Sep 2016
Question: I have noticed that I accumulate a white cheesy like substance in the left side on my labia minora fold. It makes my vulva itchy on that side only and does not easily get washed away. I have had full STI screenings and am currently not having sexual intercourse. I am prone to yeast and BV. Is this Smegma causing the itch and if so how can I control it? I have good hygiene, only use dove sensisve skin body wash on a soft cloth. I also take probiotics and vitamins although my diet isn't great. To note, the vulva to me appear a tad bit pinker than usual but I am ovulating.

Brief Answer:
Yeast seems more likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with health concern.
If it was smegma, it would not cause itching or a darker colour.
I think it is more likely to be a yeast infection.
If you could upload pics, it would help me to be more definitive in my opinion.
Using dove body wash for the perineum is not a good idea.
It might deplete ( wash away ) the normal protective flora of the private parts.
Its best to use plain water, or a neutral soap like Baktolin 5.5 %.
Just upload pics, if possible.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.

Detailed Answer:
The picture is very blurred.
I would appreciate it if you could upload a clearer picture, with less motion blur while taking it.
It appears to be smegma, but I need to be sure.
Thanks.

I have uploaded two more pictures. I try to wash it away but it remains after the shower. Currently it's not itchy, as a couple days ago I used mycolog cream X1 overnight only on this spot. When I went one month only using water it got worse. If it's Smegma how can I decrease it? Could it be a little yeasty too? I usually treat a yeast infection with fluconazole but obviously no external creams. I know Smegma has a bad smell as this has before.

Brief Answer:
As below

Detailed Answer:
IT appears to be smegma, and the only way to decrease it, is by regular and meticulous washing.
Mycolog is an external cream for yeast.
Using special soaps, gels or douches might actually worsen smegma.
It should go with the Baktolin soap that I suggested.
Does not appear to be yeast at all.
You may have a culture done , to be sure.
Take care.
