Question: Had a CT Scan last week shows a 2 mm non obstructing right renal calculus stone.
I will see my primary care physician next week. I have no pain and urine is OK.
What should I do regarding fluids to flush or is it too big to pass on my own. What types of treatment
are available?

Brief Answer:
Large quantity of water in a short duration.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Reviewed your Medical History.

2 mm stone in the renal area is never obstructing and passes easily through the urinary system.

The best way to flush this out is to have plenty of oral fluids.
The way I tell my patients and which is effective is as follows.
I ask my patients to take as much as water he/she can tolerate within a period of half an hour. You can repeat this as many times as is possible. This helps to get the maximum overload of the circulating blood volume so that the kidney excrete the excess of water in large quantity. This is how it works well. Fortunately you have only 2 mm stone and will most probably be flushed out without any symptoms of pain or colic.

There are no other treatments available for such a small stone and are not needed too.

Please try this and I hope the next CT / Ultrasonography will show a clear picture.

Please feel free if you have further queries.

Wishing you a god health.

Regards.

I already doing same. However I examined urine saw a possible stone .I don't know if a short urethea has any advantage passing a stone. I was worried about pain. I have Spinal Stenosis and a prescription for both Oxycontin and Oxycodone IR for pain . When do I know when to stop drinking water? for the process you stated. Thanks!!

Brief Answer:
No pain will be there. Continue life-long

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for already following the established method.

Please do not worry as the 2 mm stones are never known to cause the pain. I am sure you will not need the pain-killers unless you have very tight stricture in any part of the tubes of urinary passage. The short urethra has no added advantage for passage of such small stone/s.

You may please continue this method lifelong as once a stone former- always are chances to form further stones. By this method there is no chance of further formation and this also helps to reduce the chances of urinary infection.
