Question : Doctor, a recent problem has come up. When I crouch (get into a catcher's crouch) my right knee pops out of place. When I stand, it pops back into place. There is no real pain when this happens; but there is slight pain if I move the knee side to side. So if I swing a golf club, that side to side movement causes a little pain and soreness, but nothing more. I am 69 years of age and outside of mowing the lawn, I have not done anything strenuous to cause this. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
A ligament might be ruptured!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

I have reviewed the symptoms fully and this is suggestive of an injured ligament which is no longer able to maintain the structures in fixed positions. I will recommend that you get an MRI to evaluate this knee and the ligaments specifically. It will also be a good test to evaluate the meniscus as this could also be part of the pain when it is moved from side to side.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
