Question: I fell and hurt my right leg. Possible hamstring. It aches from the Back of the kee to the butt cheek. When I walk up stairs it feels like a lightening bolt goes (nerve problem.)through the back thigh just above the knee. I can not walk backwards or make a pivot. This has gone on for 1 week. Thought it was a strain of the hamstring however the reaction of the nerve concerns me? Should I give it more time to heal?

Brief Answer:
Can be most likely Iliotibial band pain syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely Iliotibial band pain syndrome. If it is a compressed nerve it will be effecting the whole leg.
Rest from excess physical activity with the involved part should be done. You can do ice pack application on and off on affected part for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. IT can be repeated 3 to 4 times daily also. Taking NSAIDs like Ibuprofen is helpful to relieve the pain. Massage and applying compression bandage will make you better fast.
If there is no improvement again with above measures after 1 week you can consult an orthopaedician to rule out other problems and for physiotherapy.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
