Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain

Question: 27/male 1st meniscus surgery 2008, 2nd in 2011...felt good for 3 years. Got back to running at times. For the last year my activity has been strictly golf. I don't stretch much but do sometimes. My hip on my my left side (surgery side) pops when I pick my knee up to my hip....resets every 45 mins. My left foot has felt somewhat dead since the 2nd surgery. This past week the knee pain came back and has stayed for the first time since the 2nd surgery. There are lots of twinges and tingly spots near the meniscus, on the knee cap, I'm the foot, and near the top of my tibia. Wondering if you have any insight before I decide to go to an orthopedic and have him recommend an MRI. I went on a very short run 2 weeks ago and there was no pain for the following few days. I played 36 holes of golf on Monday and since then I have been experiencing the symptoms

Brief Answer:
Could be knee inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that considering your age I think its because of meniscal injury due to repeated twisting movement at knee while plying golf , it may have led to overexertion . Inflammation can lead to synovitis in the knee joint . I would recommend rest and course of NSAIDS like Naproxen 500 mg twice daily for 5 days and see the response .

If it still persists you can go for an MRI and further evaluation . You can also apply topical paracetamol gel over the knee which will bring in relief.

Take care.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

Thank you for your response.

What do you think about the application of highly concentrated liquid salt from the dead sea. I have read all over the internet about how this is extremely helpful in reducing knee inflammation and muscle stiffness. Should I be doing some light stretching too? If I have an hour at night, how should I go about spending it? Stretch, Ice, apply salt? And in what order? Will taking alleve work or do I need to get another medicine? Your guidance is greatly appreciated.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for reverting back.

Anything topical you can apply there is no harm . If you ask me avoid stretching for some time . I think aleve will work in your case . Dont apply ice , but you can apply sea salt . Any other concerns let me know .

Take care.

But the ice feels so good when I apply it. Is it bad to apply ice at night before going to bed?

Dear Sir,

It will not cause any harm but wont be beneficial either , it is only recommended for acute stages of injury.
