Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain

Question: Hi,
My mom is 52 years old, and during her birth her left leg was slightly shorter than her right leg. This was left unnoticed until she realized during her adulthood. She continued to live with it and exactly at the age of 45 she started feeling the pain in her knee. During the last seven years what we saw was the left leg kept bending outwards. Almost 15 to 20 degree deviation can be seen. Due to which both the knees keep touching each other and the bones that meet at the knee has opened up slightly at one side and other other side both the bones are touching each other resulting in pain while she walks. We underwent a lot of physiotherapy treatments but nothing solved this. And now the only solution we feel is to operate. Can you please suggest if we have to operate what kind of solution should be followed. Is surgery the only option ?

Brief Answer:
It may need knee replacement
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think your mother is having knock knee like condition with knee arthritis. This can only be treated by knee replacement surgery. It can cure her knee pain and deformity both. She will be able to walk normally after that and her shortening of length will also be corrected.
If you want any other opinion then you can send me x rays of the knee joint. It will allow me to give you a betyre advise. I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks

This problem would have also impacted at her hip level right. So by doing this surgery can that problem be automatically addressed ?
What is the life time once the surgery is done. How long can she walk freely without any worries. If a knee replacement is required what kind of knee would it be replaced with. Is there any different kinds available. Can you tell me the names so I can see how it looks. Does it also come in various materials. Which one would you suggest as the best one that can be used during surgery.

Brief Answer:
Hip pain may be a different problem
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Some time back pain and hip pain can be due to knee arthritis but before knee replacement you have to get hip and spine examined as it can be all together different problem. Only when spine and hip are normal then we can go for knee replacement.
Knee surgery can last for fifteen to twenty years and some time more then that. Knee replacement implant are of various type and it depends on age, knee movements, bone quality. So I can not tell her what is best knee for her. But you can choose a metal back, high flex knee. It is made up of cobalt chrome. I would suggest you to discuss this with your doctor.
