Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query about your Mother.
To recapitulate: Female/82 - gall bladder operated in past - since then has been known to have a large hernia to the side - now has bruised appearance - has lack of appetite - hence loss of energy - very noisy stomach - sounds like hunger rumble - extremely loud and is echo type - can eat and drink normally - can go to toilet OK....
All the history is more indicative of an intestinal obstruction, most probably sub-acute hence no emergency like situation.
Can be secondary to hernia.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Clinical evaluation and examination by your Doctor, preferably by a General Surgeon.
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasonography and or CT scan of the abdomen.
Tests of stool and blood are also needed.
All these things will give a definite diagnosis and correlation to the presentation symptoms whether she needs an urgent surgery or a planned surgery.
Also watch for any foods and beverages that cause her symptoms and if found to be stopped
I hope, this answer helps her with the proper diagnosis and management.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Since the problem is so much, it is imperative to consult a General Surgeon, get all the clinical evaluation for hernia, abdominal condition and general check up, investigations for fitness for surgery, for the present conditions and if the fitness is present to persuade her to go for surgery as the hernia is enlarging means there is always a chance of complications.
Go for it.
This will also help to rule out any other causes than hernia that may cause the symptoms.
I hope this answer helps you.
Get the things done and please give me the feedback.
