Brief Answer:
Hello, Needs urgent medical treatment.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,
thank you for the query.
Well vomiting of black color suggests presence of bleeding in upper digestive tract. As blood comes in contact with gastric acid it turns brown or black in color due to formation of acid hematin.
This needs urgent medical care, as a primary treatment give him an antacid if you have like pantoprazole, rabeprazole now and do not give him anything to eat before shifting him to hospital.
Also if he is having arthritis and has been on painkillers then there is high chances of formation of ulcer in stomach or proximal small intestine which can cause torrential bleeding at times.
Also no bowel movements for 8 days is also a matter of concern especially if he has tummy distention and pain.
All this needs to be evaluated urgently hence it is advisable to move him to hospital urgently.
Hope this answers your query.
Wish him a speedy recovery.
Best wishes

He is a trucker with a load on and not near a hospital. Is there something over the counter that he can take to get him to have a bowel movement?

Hello

Detailed Answer:

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
Passing stools is not an emergency but blood vomiting is.
Tell him not to drive and should visit hospital earliest. Can take double dose of antacids if he has or if available nearby.
wish him a speedy recovery.
