Brief Answer:
physical therapy

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.

You have recently been diagnosed with a full tear of the rotator cuff on your left shoulder. You are wondering what can you do to help with the recovery from this tear. I recommend you be seen by a physical therapist who can give you daily exercises to maintain the strength of the shoulder muscles as well as ROM (Range Of Motion) exercises to prevent a frozen shoulder.

Usually the therapist will have you do shoulder circles. With you arm dangling straight down start rotating your arm in small circles gradually increasing the size of the circle. This help keep ROM. Also with you hand against the wall use your fingers to walk up the wall as high is you can. This will also give better ROM.

Another exercise is taking a large rubber band and placing it on a door handle and do strengthening exercises. You can also use light weight bar bells to help with shoulder strengthening.

To help give you a better program suited too your needs I still recommend referral to a physical therapist to tailor make a program for you.

In summary
1. See physical therapist for tailored exercise program
2. ROM exercises
3. strengthening exercises with rubber bands or light free weights

I hope this answers your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care questions or concerns
