Suggest Treatment For Left-sided Spasms In The Chest

Question: Hello. i am a 31 year old healthy male. Beginning on around April 1st 2016 I began noticing what I can best describe as spasms/flutters coming from the left side of my chest area, which concerned me as I feared it could be heart related. There has also been some discomfort associated with the spasms in the same area. No intense pain. I had never ever experienced anything like this before.

However, it should be noted that just a few days prior I had a small injury at the gym while lifting a dumbell with my left arm. The pain occurred in my left bicep though and nowhere in the chest area. It was rather intense at the moment but didn't cause any discomfort at all afterwards. Whether or not this is related to what is happening to me I am not sure. I went to the doctor on April 5th and an EKC came back normal but a blood test came back with a high CPK level of over 700. They said this was concerning and indicated a muscle issue but that it could come from anywhere. They suggested I come back in to recheck the levels or to go to the emergency room for more tests.

Under a week later on April 11th I went to the ER as the spasms/flutters continued (they happen in waves it seems like, when I'm more relaxed) and ALL tests came back normal. The CPK level was down to a normal level and they concluded there was nothing wrong with the blood flow of my heart and that it must be something muscle related.

It is now April 22nd and the spasms/flutters are still present as is the more rare symptom of some mild discomfort in the area. I have a cardiologist appointment but not for another two weeks. At this stage I am beginning to wonder and worry just what this could be. As stated earlier the injury at the gym didn't seem too serious and after it happened I didn't even think much of it, until of course these symptoms began. Do you have any insight or any as to what could be happening with me? I am starting to get sick over this. Again the spasms seem to happen more while resting and laying down in a certain way, although they have happened at work while sitting down normally as well.

Thank you, XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms may be related to muscle and ribs issues which are related to gym injury. Pain originated by muscle and rib damage is more intense at test at in certain positions.

On the other hand cardiac pain doesn't depend from body position and is more intense on physical activity.

You should apply warm bags and use advil to relieve pain.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
