Suggest Treatment For Leukemia

Posted on Mon, 13 Jun 2016
Question: My wife has just been diagnosed with non-dysplastic lymphoma. She has been on chemo for nearly seven years to fight barthold gland carcinoma that went into remission after two surgeries followed with "classic" chemo. Then it reappeared in her lung and she has been on Avastin since then. Is there any way to effectively fight this new complication or is there any new treatment being tested?

A correction to my previous request. My wife has been diagnosed with non-dysplastic leukemia, not lymphoma.

Brief Answer:
Treatment seems to be proceeding on right lines

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Leukemia is a form of cancer that starts in the soft, inner part of the bones (bone marrow), but often moves quickly into the blood. It can then spread to other parts of the body, such as the lymph nodes, spleen, liver, central nervous system and other organs. The chemotherapy tends to suppress the division of the cancerous cells that are still in the process of spreading, but once in a while a cancerous cell still manages to go and form a new 'colony' somewhere else. This way some cancerous cells have reached the lungs and other than trying to limit the rate of division and propagation there is not much that can be done.

The lungs are vascular organs and Avastin (bevacizumab) is an agent that fights the cancerous spread in such organs. The treatment is proceeding in the right track and there is not much more to be done. I am not aware of any better treatment for the present scenario.
