Question: I have leukoplakia on my tongue. It seems to get worse when I drink coffee. It gets better as the day goes on. Is coffee dehydrating my tongue and making these white bumps worse?

Brief Answer:
Coffee can make the lesion , worse

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Long-term exposure of methylxanthines present in tea and coffee results in salivary gland antioxidant system impairment that affects the protective action of saliva , adversely. So, yes it can contribute towards worsening of the lesion. You should visit an oral surgeon or an ENT doctor to assess the need for doing a brush biopsy on the lesion.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
