Question: I just slipped going up a stair and felt a pop in the back of my leg below the knee. My calf is cramping so I have it elevated with ice. Could I have popped a tendon?

Brief Answer:
Could be ACL ligament tear

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome Welcome to Healthcare.

Thanks for the query.

Is there swelling of the knee?

Are your show to lift your leg up straight ?

It is possible that you may have torn your ACL ligament. This can lead to a large swelling of the knee.

Keep your knee extended in a long knee brace. Apply ice. Keep the limb elevated over a pillow or two. Avoid flexing the knee. Avoid weight bearing if you have pain, for 6 weeks. Get an MRI after 6 weeks.

Take pain killer like Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day for 5 days after meals. Also take Tablet Ranitidine 150mg twice a day, half an hour before food.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

The pop was in the back of the leg, below the knee. Calf affected. Not ACL tear because I've had that before and had major reconstruction of that knee. Knee is fine now. No swelling or pain. Just pain and cramping in calf muscle. Is there a tendon below knee in back of leg that attaches to calf muscle? That seems to be the area affected and where I felt the pop. Please let me know what you think.. Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Ruptured Baker cyst

Detailed Answer:
If you have arthritis in that one, then a Baker's cyst could have popped and the fluid drained into your calf muscles causing pain and swelling.

Kindly keep the limb elevated.

Get an Xray and follow up with me.
