Question : I have an overbite. It really bothers me because I constantly injure the inside of my lower lips and I have a really weird resting face. I am 18 and want to know if I must get surgery to fix my overbite or braces will be just fine. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello & thank you for submitting your question.

I am sorry that your overbite is causing you discomfort with your physical appearance. This is definitely a condition that may be improved after consultation with a surgeon. It would be very reasonable to see an oral maxillofacial surgeon for their assessment and suggestions.

Major surgery may not be needed and minor intervention is a possibility; however, this would be determined by the professional opinion of the surgeon.

I am sure that after you seek treatment, you will be feeling more confident about the possibilities of modifying this condition.

Sincerely,
Dr Galamaga
