Brief Answer:
Causes not known but inheritance of risk is sure

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
thanks for the query

Fatty tumours are called lipomas. they are the most common non-cancerous tumours in the body and consist of fat cells enclosed in a thin capsule.

The neck region is a common site for lipomas and it is a common finding to have more than one lipoma at a time on the same individual.

The precise causes of lipoma are not clearly understood. Some schools thought overweight or obesity was a cause but not. However, what is certain is that, the tendency to develop lipoma is inherited.

The only problem with lipomas is esthetics without which one can comfortably live with lipomas. However, a minor surgery could be done to get rid of the lipoma.

Hope this helps. If you have further query, i will be glad to help.
Best regards
Dr Achuo
