Question: my brother has ascites. His stomach was drained 2 1/2 weeks ago and has filled with fluid again. Is it common to drain more than once or does the disease just run it's course from here.

Brief Answer:
Liver cirrhosis is severe, can drain til control with meds

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I am sorry for the health situation your brother is going through.

Unfortunately, alcoholic liver cirrhosis is the scarring of liver due to continuos and long term damage from alcohol abuse.

The best thing could be liver not to get through cirrhosis, but unfortunately when it's set, one of its complication is ascites (fluid in abdomen). This is suggesting that his situation is really severe.

Apart draining, taking diuretics on regular basis can help.

So, can drain again until getting well controlled with medications.

Wish fast recovery.
