Question : Hi, I have been diagnosed with low grade pseydomyxoma perotinie, done through laporoscopy examination, the biopsy reads that is is strips of mucinous epithelim with low grade dysplasia. not sure if this is consider a cancer. my specialist say that I will need to have a major surgery. I already have surgery done 3 years ago which is total hysterectomy to remove the tumour from the appendix and biopsy was a pmp. can you please advise if this is cancer or watchful waiting is the best?
Brief Answer:
Watchful cancer
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns about pseudomyxomaperotonei ( PP).
This is a cancerous growth (Mucinous Adenocarcinoma) which slowly increases over the years. Infact this has happened due to previous appendicular mass in your case.
PP in your case is a metastatic disease. If untreated this may get enlarged and make bowel movements difficult.
Therefore i suggest you undergo surgery to remove PP if they are many. If not , you can also opt for infusion of chemotherapy agent called mitomycin in abdomen.
Let me know if you need any more clarifications.
