Suggest Treatment For Low Libido

Question: I am 35, fair overall health, currently on propranolol, effexor, clonazepam and lipitor. Had a thyroid condition, Hashimitos, which has gone into remission and I am euthyroid.

Is there anything I can do to increase sex drive? I have very little. This has been an ongoing issue for 4+ years and is quite frustrating.

Brief Answer:
first step - Substitute/stop propranolol

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

I can understand your concern.

Among the medicines you are taking propranolol is associated with sexual dysfunction. You need to substitute with some other drug or if possible stop it. Considering your drug profile, I guess you have been prescribed propranolol mostly for anxiety symptoms. In that case clonazepam, etizolam or even psychotherapy can help instead of propranolol. You need to discuss this issue with your doctor.

After stopping propranolol if your problem is not corrected, following approach should be done.

Your blood pressure, serum testosterone level and overall physical examination to be done.
If testosterone level is low, supplementation of the same is required.

If level is normal and no physical finding, probable cause is psychological.
For that detail couple sex counseling and master & XXXXXXX technique(a technique of sexual act by couple to treat erectile dysfunction) can be used.

Medicines useful are: 5-PDE inhibitor like sildenafil or tadalfil which should be taken just before 2 hours of sex. Another medicine called tetrafol plus containing mecobylamine and pyridoxal phosphate is also useful which is taken to be daily twice. You can also discuss the same with your treating doctor and start the treatment.

Just let me know few things:
Dose of propranolol, since when you are taking.
How is your depression right now?
Your problem is decreased sexual desire, erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation?
How is your emotional relationship with partner?

I will be happy to help further,
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
