Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I am a 57 year old male. I did an extensive blood test recently, all is fine except a low testosterone value, 2,51 ng/ml. Is this a dangereously low level at my age?
I am worried about risk of loosing muscle mass and libido from low T

Brief Answer:
Your Testosterone levels are near normal value for your age.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been detected your Testosterone level to be 2.51 ng/ml

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.

1) Do you have Diabetes or Hypertension or any cardiac problem?
2) Do you have normal sex desire ?
3) Is there loss of memory or do you feel depressed?

With advancing age there is fall of 1% of Testosterone levels for every year of age .Considering your age testosterone value at this age looks to be near normal and nothing to be worried about as long as you do not have any clinical manifestations of low testosterone levels?

It is nature's rule to get your testosterone to reduce with advancing age and one can not prevent it ,only one has to be careful and watchful to test it every year and to see that it does go below dangerously low level and does not affect quality of your life and to take testosterone replacement therapy preferably in the form of gel to be applied over skin .( We advise not to take Testosterone in injectable form as there is risk of developing prostate cancer.in person above the age of 55 years).

You can apply Testosterone Gel over shoulder and chest .

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician,

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you, some more info follows here:

1) I have no Diabetes or Hypertension, nor cardiac problem. I did have some elevated BP before I lost weight and improved life style early 2014

2) My sex desire appears normal on the average. But I do experience occasional (regularly) periods of several days when, without any external reason, I feel tired for several days along with low libido

3) No depressive feelings or loss of memory

4) I measured my Testosterone and SHBG level in blood several times since early 2014. Testosterone fluctuates but always at the low end of the normal range. Current level of 2,51 is lowest ever.

5) I noticed a weaker hair growth under my armpits than before

6) I lost quite some fat by better diet and regular excercise and sports. I focused on muscle build up (weight lifting etc, to boost T) but only little effect. In addition, I still keep too much fat in the breast area. I suspect that has a hormonal cause???

Thanks for your help!

Brief Answer:
Your testosterone levels are well within normal levels for your age.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for feeback.

A Testosterone level of 2.51 is normal for the age of 57 years ..Keep on having regular exercise and activities This will help you to keep active and free from any illness.
As regards occasional libido you can use tropical jelly of Testosterone to be applied over cheat and shoulder this will help to raise the testosterone level but below the risk level of developing cancer of the prostate.

Thanks and Regards.

Hello,
Thank you for explanation.

Could you give me a little more information on the jelly that you mention ( example of name, brand or producer), so that I can be more specific when talking to my family doctor? I assume that I need a prescription for this medicine, correct?

Thank you and best regards.
