Question: I am getting lower abdominal pain in frequent intervals. Someone among my friends said it might be due to early stages of Urinary infection. I would like to know, what are the symptoms for Urinary tract infection and how can it be diagnosed?

Following are some of the symptoms of UTI .
1) Pain in lower abdomen
2) Burning while passing urine
3) Frequency for urination
4) Frequent urge to pass urine
5) Burning at the end of urination
6) Passing cloudy urine
7) Passing high coloured urine with offensive smell.
8) High grade fever with chills
9) Generalized weakness and malaise

The diagnosis of UTI can be confirmed by doing
1)Routine urine analysis of preferably morning sample of urine which reveals presence of
1) Protein
2) WBC esterase
3) Pus cells
4) Bacteria
5) Casts and crystals
6) Turbid appearence of urine

2) The second and most important and more sensitive test done routinely is called as Urine Culture and Sensitivity test.This test helps to detect the organisms (Bacteria) causing the infection and the antibiotics (Drugs ) those will kill these bacteria to help us to bring the infection under control ,
