Question : hi, my name is XXXXXXX and i just turned 50. for the past 2 days ive had a pain in my lower abdomen. its right on the belt line. if i press on it, it feels painful. seems about the same on both sides. seems like i havent pooped enough, so saturday night i took a glass of miralax. i did have a bowel movement this morning, but didnt seem to get rid of the pain. just a fyi, back in august, i herniated 2 discs and have a floating fragment. ive had one series of 2 shots, and did physical therapy. it feels better, but not "good" yet. otherwise im in pretty good shape, and have a physically active job.

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/50 - pain in abdomen on a belt-line - tender - same on both sides - took a glass of Miralax on Saturday night - passed motion but did not get rid of pain - 2 herniated discs in August - took treatment ....

As per the history you have provided, the pain on the belt-line in lower abdomen with tenderness and same on both sides, not relieved by Miralax could most probably be due to colitis.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Anti-spasmodic medicine round the clock.
Stool test and if infection is found, a course of an antibiotic active against intestinal infection, Metronidazole and probiotic may help you the best. Most of the medicines needs valid prescription from your local Doctor.
Boiled and cooled water.
Fresh home-made food.

If there is no relief after 5 day course then you may needs a Specialists opinion, further investigations as may be needed depending upon your signs and symptoms.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication..
