default
Posted on Tue, 9 Feb 2016
Question: I have right lower abdominal pain no appendix - its a dull medium that does not come and go

I just got over a bout of diverticulitis and had mild mesenteric shredding on CT along with an ovarian cyst

What factors could possibly be the culprits of my pain? Seeing GI PCP this week. I have apt with surgeon in early February and apt with GYN in early February

With my PCP apt this Tuesday I need to talk to him about pain control so that I can get to work etc until something is diagnosed and treated?

Brief Answer:
some work up and check ups

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for writing in to healthcare magic.
The lower abdomen pain in your case most likely seems to be related to diverticulitis, but there could be other possibilities like ureteric stones, irritable bowel syndrome, ovarian cyst complications, undetected appendicitis etc.
It is good that you are getting examined by a surgeon, gynecologist and a physician.
I will advise that you should get complete blood counts, renal functions test, ESR, CRP, stool for ova, cyst and occult blood tests.
A colonoscopy may further give clues to diagnosis.
You should avoid fried and non veg foods instead switch to high fiber, liquid diets and curd base diets.
Preparations like Normaxin may be used under prescription from your PCP to relieve episodes of worsening until diagnosis is confirmed.
