Brief Answer:
Get the surgery done if advised.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. if you have hiatal hernia , it is the cause of your acid reflux and gastritis problem. Until and unless it gets fixed no medication in the world would be sufficient. regarding the danger of the surgery , let me reassure you, fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair surgeries are very minimal invasive and perfectly safe provided the expertise of the surgeon. So no worries. If your doctor recommends hernia repair, get it done as not doing it will lead to further complications like metaplastic changes in GIT and even malignancies in the long run in esophagus .

I hope it helps. Nutshell, get the surgery done. I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

Are there other possibilities beside a hernia that could make it randomly hurt in that spot?

Answered by Dr. Shafi Ullah Khan (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Multiple risk factors.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getitng back to me

If hiatal hernia is there then other possibilities are merely a trigger and hernia the cause. If there is no hiatal hernia , then there is a thousand of possible risk factors for this gastritis like smoking, alcohol use, spices , stimulants, fatty foods, dairy products, NSAIDs use, binge eating, processed and canned foods use etc.

Symptomatic care and diet lifestyle changes help in conservative option but if the hiatal hernia is the pathology sidewise, the surgical correction is necessary often.

I hope it helps.

Not sure if its a hietal hernia yet. Making appointment for endoscopy tomorrow to confirm. Been told by primary care could be hietal hernia

With just the speculation by a PCP, i am sure it wont be hernia as odds of gastritis due to hernia are very less and unlikely with other commonest causes. No worries. Everything will turn up normal. Plus why endoscopy when you can confirm hernia by a simple barium or any other swallow study. Invasive procedures should be left to the bottom of the list.

I hope it helps.

Guess endoscopy because of upper ab pain that moves around. The pcp said was probably gastritis but maybe a hietal hernia. On nexium 2x a day. Pain has subsided accept in the area where the top of the stomach starts. Its in top center. Thats why i asked could there be other possibilities beside hietal hernia.

As i mentioned earlier not every gastritis is due to hiatal hernia. Odds of hiatal hernia as cause of gastritis is unlikely. As that is mostly congenital and is usually accompanied by acid reflux. Common causes should be considered first. Hope for the best. Your results will be encouraging.

Acid reflux likely.

Acid reflux can cause sore throat and can lead to lymph nodes swelling in throat. These self resolve. Salt water gargles help for sure. These home remedies are the best. So no worries. Feeling of something stuck in throat unable to cough it up is typical for acid reflux .

Take care XXXXXXX

Throat doesnt hurt. Its difficult to describe but in addition to the lump from time to time something feels different in nose. Would the acid reflux cause the possibility of hietal hernia? Or would gastritis and acid reflux cause pain at center of top of stomach?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Shafi Ullah Khan (26 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Hiatal hernia causes GERD, not the other way around.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Not every acid reflux is due to hiatal hernia . Hiatal hernia causes acid reflux axid reflux does not cause hiatal hernia. You have acid reflux that is causing throat and nose symptoms as well. Endoscopy and other work up is to sort out the cause of it, the rarst of all is hiatal hernia. Commonest will be likely in your case.

I hope it explains.
