Suggest Treatment For Lower Back And Pelvic Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jan 2017
Question: Yes, thanks. I had a IUT infection about one month ago - it was confirmed by my doctor and he put me on a round of antibiotics.
Since then, and increasingly - in the last week to 10 days - I continue to have mild to non-mild pelvic pain and lower back pain. I went to my gynecologist and she did a sonogram and took a uterine cell sample. All came back normal.
The back pain is not unusual, as I have 3 herniated discs in my lower back.
The pelvic pain IS new.

Brief Answer:
Need to rule out pelvic inflammatory disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be pelvic inflammatory disease or extension of that infection which have been diagnosed earlier. At times ultrasound may turn out to be normal and since you were on antibiotics the cultures can also come out to be normal.

It's better to get blood screens done like complete blood count for white cell count and differential counts as well as CRP and cultures of cervical swab can be repeated after atleast after 3 days of stopping antibiotics.

If ultrasound was normal, a CT scan pelvis may be needed as it will reveal more information than an ultrasound and for that you can get a second opinion. The pain being due to your earlier spine issues is less likely. Meanwhile you can use OTC analgesics like acetaminophen for symptomatic relief.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
