Suggest Treatment For Lower Right Abdominal Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: I am experiencing pelvic pain on my right side, only. I have been screened by a GYN, a GI & my PCP. Have had an abdominal ultrasound, CT scan, & MRI, as well as a gynogolicic exam (benign). Am now being referred again to the GI for a colonoscopy by my PCP, although GI saw no urgency to do so (initial referral was for my liver due to abnormal enzyme levels, which are now normal). Had colonoscopy performed w/good results in 2009 @ age 53 w/recommendation for a repeat procedure in 7-10 yrs. Fractured pelvic bone on right side approximately 2.5 years ago. Healed appropriately w/no recurring pain until ~9 months ago. Now experience joint noises upon certain movements, but evidently no test results indicate osteoarthritis. PCP refuses to address pain w/meds until a diagnosis has been reached. Colonoscopy scheduled for 12/14 (first available). In pain every day, some more than others. Thinking about presenting to a chiropractor. Tired of the pain & constant referrals w/no diagnosis. All this stress has now increased BP level, requiring additional medicine & daily monitoring. HELP!

Brief Answer:
Pelvic pain awaiting evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

If your primary care physician has felt the need for repeat colonoscopy, you need to go for it as it may throw some light on the cause of persistent abdominal pain you are having. In any case, your Gastro-enterologist has already advised repeat colonoscopy in 7-10 years.
If colonoscopy is inconclusive,a repeat CT scan abdomen (plain and contrast) might be required.
However i did not get the full picture of illness through limited information provided.
At your age of 60 years ,you are likely to have Hypertension in natural course of ageing due to atherosclerosis. How much stress has added to its development is conjectural.

I've had hypertension for 20+ years. Seems odd that PCP wants repeat colonoscopy more than Gasterenterologist does. Think he's just covering his ass. Thanks for no information of value! Goodbye!
