Brief Answer:
May be Sprain in back or sacroiliac joint.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel , Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my opinion you probably had sudden back strain or Strain of sacroiliac joint.
I would advise pain killers , hot fomentation and local heal application. It might take few days for the pain to subside. For very acute pain injections are reqd
Use whatever posture is comfortable in sleep- you may use one or two pillow below the knee to ease pain.
I hope to have been of use to you. Please feel free to ask any other question.
