Question : Hello, i have had a noticable lump in my armpit for a few years. I once had it checked by a doctor but he didn't seem to think it was anything too serious. During times when my body is trying to fight off a viral infection it swells up a bit but the reduces. The past week it has trippled in size and is extremely painful. I've been using a warm compress and otc pain meds. The swelling has not gone down and the pain persists. Should i wait it out or go see a doctor? Thank you

I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

Well from your description it seems quite a while for such a swelling/lump to persist, and had it been a simple cyst/pustule it should've been subsided already..

Given the location (armpit), it can be a lymph node which got flared up due to the viral infection..

I'd strongly suggest you not to delay any more any please schedule an appointment with your doctor (preferably a surgeon), as it seems infected now quite apparently from your description and you'll be needing appropriate antibiotic therapy after the check-up and some investigations too as per the clinical finding..

Please don't delay any more, as it's been quite a while already..
