Suggest Treatment For Lump On My Shin Due To An Injury

Posted on Wed, 9 Apr 2014
Question: Just hit my shin really hard on my marble shower seat. It has a large lump (looks like an egg under it). It doesn't hurt worse when I walk so the bone seems okay. I have ice on it and have the leg elevated and I took 2 Alleve pills. Should I do anything else?

Brief Answer: You may get the X-ray/MRI of the area affected Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the X-ray/MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance. If you are able to bear the weight on your limb without much pain then a bone injury is unlikely. You need to continue with rest and ice . Most of the times it is a soft tissue injury but it takes at least 3-4 days for the pain to subside. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care

Brief Answer: Description below Detailed Answer: RICE is used immediately after an injury happens and for the first 24 to 48 hours after the injury. Rest, ice, compression, and elevation can help reduce the swelling and pain and help you heal faster. Apply an ice pack to the injured area for 20 minutes at a time, four to eight times a day. A cold pack, ice bag, or plastic bag filled with crushed ice and wrapped in a towel can be used. To avoid cold injury and frostbite, do not apply the ice for more than 20 minutes. Ice should be used as often as possible during the first 1 to 2 days after an injury. Take care.
