Suggest Treatment For Lung Infection And Pneumonia

Posted on Wed, 4 Jan 2017
Question: I had a chest x-ray done within the last 24 hours for my primary care to check on my possibly having a lung infection and pneumonia. The report came back suggesting I may have bronchial wall thickening. What is that disorder and how can it be treated?

Brief Answer:
It is not a disorder by itself

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Bronchial wall thickening means the walls of the airways which supply the lung are thicker than normal. This suggests inflammation of the airways. By itself it is not a disease, it can be any disorder which causes airway inflammation.

Most commonly it is infection, viral, bacterial etc. So a course of antibiotics may suffice, along with some drugs to reduce the airway inflammation. It is much less serious than pneumonia, which is infection of the lung itself.

Hope this helps.
Regards
