Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: I have swollen lymph node on my neck from past 2 months, blood test shows EO% as 8% and Low in Vitamin D. Went to Physician and used antibiotics for 10 days. Swelling did not go away. ENT and he suggested take out the lymph node, but prescribed one more dose of antibiotics before that. Using medication for Vitamin D as well. Blood test results are fine. I did not lose weight recently. Not any major other symptoms. How serious it is. Can you suggest the best approach?
Physician suggested that I have latent tuberculosis is in dormant state. Do I need to go for biopsy for the swollen lymph node!!

Brief Answer:
Need FNAC or EXCISION BIOPSY !!!

Detailed Answer:
I warmly Welcome you to HCM. Your trust in this forum means a lot to me as a Physician.

This type of lymph nodal swelling is usually due to viral or bacterial infection of the head and neck area. With anyibiotics use, infection subsides and mostly there is resolution of swelling in the lymph nodes right away with the infection. But sometimes, this swelling takes some time to go away completely.

With your blood cell counts, medication history, doctor's evaluation after checkup all suggest that you need FNAC or EXCISION BIOPSY. I will also go with the ENT SPECIALIST's suggestions. Actually we need to see what tissue is the lymph node made of. Histopathology Lab analysis will tell that.

So please follow the instructions of your ENT SPECIALIST and follow-up with the Lab reports accordingly.

Hope it helps today. Feel free to contact me back if you have further questions/doubts. I will be happy to assist you.

Regard!
Dr. Hanif
