Suggest Treatment For Migraine In A Teenager
Question: Re XXXX - 14 year old with migraine. She has had the first two tests done:
1. From her history, you should get her hearing and ear pressures checked. A PTA (Pure Tone Audiometry) and an Impedance Audiometry (Tympanogram). An ear drum examination should be done.
These were both clear.
I am seeing our paediatrician today, after giving them your information, and will tell you what they say. From a previous discussion with the nurse, it sounds like they are going to ignore the information, and want to send XXXX to the Pain Clinic to teach her how to manage the pain, without trying to find out what it is, so unless I can convince them otherwise, I will have to do all these tests privately.
XXXX has stopped the Topimax, but the other drug you recommended is not available in New Zealand, and we are not sure if there is an alternative.

Brief Answer:
This looks less likely to be an ENT cause.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. It is good to hear that the ear tests are within normal limits. This rules out most ear causes.
2. Flunarizine should be available in New Zealand. You will need a prescription for that.
3. Get the endocrinologist, eye specialist (fundus examination) and neurology reference done.
I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
