Suggest Treatment For Mild Cough, Cold And Upper Back Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: I have a very mild cough and upper back pain. I'm scared to death it's lung cancer. I had a bad cold and the same back pain back in April, but it went away with antibiotics. I also had an ear infection with that cold in April. The April cold lasted from Christmas until I took antibiotics in April. The cough seems to be worse when exposed to smoke or cat fur (both back in April and now). Back pain seems worse now than it did in April. I don't have shortness of breath. I occasionally sneeze and have an itchy nose. Not sure if this is allergies but I can't figure out why my back would hurt. It hurts on my left side right next to my spine, sort of under the shoulder blade. And it seems to be spreading to the right side of the spine in the same spot. I'm going to be going to the doctors as soon as possible, but I want to see if anyone has any opinion on here too. I'm a 26 year old female, no history of smoking.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of allergy is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No need to worry much for lung cancer because you are young and not smoking. Lung cancer is common in smokers after the age of 40 years. So in your case possibility of lung cancer is very very low.
Possibility of allergy is more in your case.
And your pain is mostly due to musculoskeletal because of coughing.
But better to get done chest x ray to rule out lung infection and cancer.
If chest x ray is normal than no need to worry for infection or cancer.
Also get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out cough variant asthma and allergic bronchitis.
You may need antihistamine and anti allergic drugs, inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Get done chest x ray to rule out cancer and infection.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
