Question : Two weeks ago I had an LFT during a life insurance physical. They informed me today that my GGT was 132 and ALP 130. I am 49 and take 40mg Lipitor and 300 mg bupropion xl. I typically have three drinks each evening and a couple more on the weekend. I get my LFT checked annually the last time being in September 2016. Everything came back as usual I n normal range including cholesterol and triglycerides. Stupidly the night before my test two weeks ago I had three hefty drinks including vodka and wine and possibly triplesec. Question 1: could the drinking the night before the test have caused the elevated numbers? Question 2: if I wait two weeks to retest, not drink any alcohol or diet sodas, start taking a multi vitamin and take probiotics during this period, is there a good chance the retest will show normal results. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Alcohol related mild hepatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern for abnormal LFTs
1) Yes, abstinence from alcohol reflects good LFT, BUT minimum abstinence of 5-7 days. Your heavy drinking just night prior to blood chcek-up might be responsible for elevated liver enzymes.
2) Yes, if you plan to re-test - do alcohol abstinence for 15-20 days, avoid fat-rich diet, do light exercise, take protein-rich diet and carbohydrate rich diet (if you are not suffering from diabetes)
3) I would recommend you to perform USG abdomen along with blood test next time based on your history of heavy alcohol drinking and recent elevation on liver enzymes.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubts, I would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!
