I am in my 20th week of pregnancy now and had my anomaly scan done on Saturday. They said the baby has mild right hydronephrosis for which the doctor told to wait till scan at 28th week. What is the cause for this? Elders at my home say it will be fine if i drink more water & start walking. How does this help? What others could help rectify this before baby birth?
Thanks,
XXXX
Likely to get crrected by itself
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for your query.
I have read you query and I understand your concerns about mild hydronephrosis.
Following is my reply:
1) Hydronephrosis is due to enlargement of the portion in front of kidney. This happens when there is any obstruction in urinary tract ( ureter, urethra, bladder) of baby.
2) This being mild hydronephrosis is not really significant. This is likely to have happened due to mild variation in measurements of hydronephrosis.
3) Anyway this is not a major problem and generally gets corrected by its own.
4) You dont need to do anything. It gets corrected by itself as pregnancy continues. I dont see any reason to panic or anything to be done from your side. It will be corrected soon.
5) Repeat scan at 28th week as per your doctor's suggestion.
I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.
Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.
Regards,
Dr. Soumya
