Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: I turned 40 in July. I haven't gotten my period since June11. Took 2 pregnancy tests, both negative. Not feeling like period is coming anytime soon. Very bloated. Feels like constipation but have been drinking a lot of water and eating high fiber. For the past day my left leg (upper outer thigh) has been going tingly and numb off and on throughout day..not sure if this is related to anything. I do know that I have MTHFR.

Brief Answer:
ĺIt might be neurological defect

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
In my opinion as you have no periods since XXXXXXX 2011 the menopause might have set in.Usually the menopause is said to occur when no periods occur for a period of one
year. And it usually reaches between 47 to 50 years of age with slight variability.
As it reached before 40 years of age it might be premature menopause. But in order to confirm the LH and FSH hormones might be needed.
As you have MTHFR there will low levels of folic acid, vitamin B 12 and B6 leading to neurological problems. So the tingling and numbness on outer aspect of thigh ,constipation might be its effect.
So the respected vitamin levels estimation and there supplementation might be needed.
Continue taking high fluids, high fibre and laxatives if needed for constipation.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.

I meant that the last period I had was XXXXXXX 11th, 2015. So it's been 2 months without one. Is it possible that MTHFR is also affecting that? So basically I should go get my blood drawn and tested for levels. Can a blood draw detect folic acid, B12 and B6 levels?

Brief Answer:
Stress might cause irregular periods

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, goodday.I got your query.I understand your concern,In my opinion the serum estimation of folate, vitamin B12,B6 are done by blood investigation. So you might need them for effective treatment.
Sorry i misunderstood that you got your periods lastly in XXXXXXX 2011.As you got them in XXXXXXX and urine pregnancy tests are negative you might need medicines for withdrawal bleeding. And check for your next periods.
And hormonal estimation of FSH and LH are not needed presently. As i suggested you them to rule out any menopause.
The missed period might be due to stress or any hormonal imbalance.Avoid stress if any.Relax.
Adapt healthy lifestyle like walking or exercise daily.
Best regards....dr.srilatha
